She's Still Got It was inspired by the sight of an elderly woman crossing the road in Truro, Nova Scotia. All the traffic in the street stopped. I thought to myself, "she's still got it!" As I worked on the lyric, I realized that the sentiment really applies to anyone: beauty is beautiful at any age.
I often marvel at the pressures women face, particularly in the arts & entertainment industry, to "look young." It's such a ridiculous – but popular – notion that men get better with age (Sean Connery, Richard Gere) but that women need plastic surgery (Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith) to stay relevant and beautiful. Come on... seriously?!
